The streets are sadly not becoming any safer and we constantly have to worry about bad elements when we’re out and about. Sometimes, being careful simply isn’t enough and we have to take matters into our own hands. Learning some self-defense techniques could help, and carrying pepper spray is also a popular option. The downside? They’re a bit pricy. Most pepper spray brands cost P625 and up. It’s a good investment to ensure your safety for your daily commutes or when you’re out late at night, but many have other expenses to worry about.
If that’s the case, why not be resourceful and make one yourself? That’s exactly what Marry Ferjel Babasa did. She shared the recipe for her very own DIY pepper spray in a now-viral Facebook post. Her main ingredient? None other than sili, duh!
You won’t have to spend too much time on this DIY, and you won’t have to spend too much money either. It’s absolutely hassle-free!
First, you’ll need an empty spray bottle. You can buy one of those travel spray bottles or if you want to save even more money, find one lying around at home.
Next, get a bunch of pieces of sili and start chopping them up. Make sure you remove the seeds before putting them inside the spray bottle to avoid clogging the tube.
Now, all you have to do is fill it up with water, shake it a couple of times, and voila! Your own personal self-defense weapon! Don’t forget to thoroughly wash your hands afterward.
