LOOK: This Food Stand Serves Filipino Street Food in the Streets of New York

So Sarap NYC brings Filipino street food to the streets of New York! Their mission is to remind Filipinos of their childhood memories while introducing the taste of the Pinoy delicacies to the people of The Big Apple. The team also stays true to the culture with their business being family and friends-operated.

The pop-up vendors serve them in classic street food carts or “kariton” in Filipino, while their menu consists of Filipino street food staples such as fish balls, taho, isaw, balut, penoy, ice candy, and more! To maintain the authentic look and taste, the ingredients and supplies they use are sourced from other Asian vendors.

According to the team, their concept was well-received by Filipinos and city dwellers. They said, “Everyone was very excited and so, so proud. Filipinos stated how it made them feel like they were transported back home. And according to those who have tried our street food for the first time, they loved it and were very happy to have experienced how we roll, so to speak.”

Of course, launching and running a business during a pandemic was not easy. “We honestly didn’t expect such long lines to form for hours on end,” they shared. The vendors needed to limit their customers to avoid forming a crowd around the carts and could not allow them to dip in the sauce jars–the way it is done in the Philippines pre-pandemic.

So Sarap NYC stays positive, nevertheless. “This definitely limits the whole experience but we look forward to the world coming back to normal, hopefully soon!”
