Kung Paano Nanalo sa Karera si Rosang Taba is returning to the stage as Dulaang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas is restaging the adaptation of the beloved children’s book. The book was written by Dean Francis Alfar and illustrated by Ghani Madueño.

Rosang Taba follows a race between Rosa and her oppressors in the fictional world of Katao, which ensues with her family’s freedom at stake. It is a tale of how limitations can be overcome when one has the will to fight for one’s liberty. In 2006, the book was awarded the third prize for Short Story for Children at the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature.

The stage adaptation is written by Maynard Manansala and Rody Vera, with direction by José Estrella, Issa Manalo Lopez, and Mark Daniel Dalacat.

Kiki Baento stars as the titular Rosang Taba, Peewee O’Hara as Ina, and Aldo Vencilao as Ama. Meann Espinosa joins them as Seora Andreia, Victor Sy as Seor Pietrado, and Jojo Cayabyab as the Gobernador Heneral.

Rosang Taba was initially staged in 2023 and is considered one of the best theatre productions of the year.

This year’s restaging will run from April 19 to May 5, 2024, at the IBG-KAL Theater at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
