LOOK: This Cult-Favorite Horror Series on YouTube is Getting a TV Show!

“What’s your favorite idea? Mine is being creative!”

This is the first line ever uttered in cult-favorite horror YouTube series, “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared,” which explored seemingly educational topics through catchy songs and adorable anthropomorphic puppets but, as each episode passed, eerily paved the way to something much more sinister and nightmare-inducing.

The six-episode series that premiered in 2011 has received over 186 Million views in total, with viewers consistently coming back to reminisce about the psychological trauma they’ve experienced as children.

Now, nearly four years since the series was brought to a haunting conclusion, “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared” is coming back with an all-new plot and all-new horrors as a television show!

This news was announced by the BFI’s Young Audiences Content Fund which confirmed that the series has been picked up by Channel 4, a British public-service free-to-air TV network. In a statement, Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy in Channel 4, said:

Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared is a uniquely pitched show from one of the most creative production companies around. Ideas that come with such a strong identity and established following are incredibly rare but they are really important factors when it comes to making content for younger audiences. We were desperate to endorse this glorious genre-blending-puppet-tour-de-force and with the YACF we found the perfect partners to make that a reality. We’re thrilled to be making this series with them both.”

The TV adaptation will be helmed by the series’ original creators Becky Sloan, Joseph Pelling, and Baker Terry. It will also star the original characters Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Duck.
