LOOK: These Images of the Remake of Stephen King’s “It” Will Haunt You

For those who are afraid of clowns, Stephen King’s novel It should be avoided at all costs. But it’s hard to avoid when it keeps showing up in pop culture. The novel came out in 1986. A TV miniseries starring Tim Curry as the creepy clown Pennywise came out in 1990. And now, there’s a remake coming out in 2017. When will this madness end?

Yesterday, a new image from the remake was released and it’s the stuff of nightmares. It’s Pennywise peeking out of a sewer, which reminds us of that scene in the miniseries where the clown is peeking from the gutter:

And then there’s this image, which was released in August this year:

It tells the story of a group of children terrorized by a clown who exploits the fears and phobias of its victims. The book is one of King’s most recognizable works, with Publishers Weekly announcing it was the bestselling book of 1986. The clown Pennywise was also recognized as one of the scariest clowns in pop culture.

The 2017 adaptation will have Bill Skarsgård portraying the evil clown. It will premiere on September 8, 2017.
