The King: Eternal Monarch follows the story of an emperor in a fictional kingdom who discovers another universe where he meets the person he has been searching for since he was young. The series is notable for marking Lee Min-ho’s return after enlisting in the army and serving for two years. Another selling point is that it was written by Kim Eun-sook, who also wrote Descendants of the Sun and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (also known as Goblin).

The series premiered on Netflix on April 17, 2020.
