LOOK: ‘Sakura’ blooms in Singapore

Spring is here! Well, for most countries with four seasons it is here. For us in the Philippines, it is summer and it is hot!

Anyway, a dream travel of many is to experience spring and witness sakura (cherry blossoms) in full bloom. When it comes to cherry blossom viewing, Japan is on top of the list. However, if a Japan trip is not in the budget this year and you wish to go somewhere nearer (although, we can’t promise the trip to be cheap), then Singapore also has “cherry blossoms” blooming.

At the Gardens by the Bay, specifically at the Flower Dome, pretty cherry blossoms were in the spotlight.

On their website, they said:

Japan spring fever sweeps Gardens by the Bay with the inaugural Sakura Matsuri (Cherry Blossom Festival). Anchoring the fiesta is the annual cherry blossom floral display in Flower Dome, which will be complemented by Flower Dome programmes such as Japanese tea ceremony demonstrations, performing arts and kimono parade. Fans of Japanese pop culture will be in for a treat at Anime Garden, an anime-themed weekend featuring free anisong concerts, celebrity cosplayer appearances and Pikachu dance parade. Rounding off the festivities at the end of the month is Sakura Japan Fair featuring Japanese food and retail options, workshops and performances.

Here are the event details:

  • March 16 – April 8
  • 9 AM – 9 PM daily
  • Supertree Grove and Flower Dome
  • Flower Dome admission charge applies

Here are some photos of cherry blossoms from Gardens by the Bay’s website.

This one is Photoshopped because this looks like it was taken in Ninenzaka Street in Kyoto.
