LOOK: Proud mothers show how breastfeeding is nothing to be ashamed of

We salute all mothers who go out of their way to care for their children, especially their infants! A mother’s love is definitely like no other.

Facebook page Go Breastfeed advocates breastfeeding. It opts to raise awareness about this and at the same time, “bring together pro-breastfeeding people and groups — parents, caregivers, lactation consultants, counselors, health organizations — to an online platform so that the joys and challenges of breastfeeding may be shared to a wider audience.”

Through a photo set just in time to commemorate Breastfeeding month, the page uploaded photos of proud mothers breastfeeding their babies, donning ethnic themed costumes blending in with nature. It captions:

Breastfeeding is normal. It is an act of infant feeding and not an indecent display of flesh. It is a relationship between mother and child.

Through breastfeeding, we give life. What is there to be ashamed of?

Happy breastfeeding month!

We have reached out to Go Breastfeed founder Kate delos Reyes for further details.

WIM: What is the notion of breastfeeding that most of the public/society doesn’t know?
Kate delos Reyes: Many people still find breastfeeding as something that should be done in privacy. This is largely because of the sexualization of women and breasts. People forget that breastfeeding is simply feeding. When we as adults get hungry, we don’t have to cover up or go to the bathroom just to eat. Why are we asking babies to do the same?

WIM: How can society help support breastfeeding mothers other than sharing their advocacies online? Are there specific actions that could make breastfeeding women more comfortable in the community?
KDR: We have some suggestions in this article.
