LOOK: Pinays Celebrate International Women’s Day by Introducing the Women Who Inspire Them

Twitter Womens Day

Twitter is home to an incredible array of women’s voices to find, share, and pass on that inspiration to others. Unique, influential, big and small; from leaders in business to entrepreneurs, mothers, daughters, partners, and friends. Twitter is the place they come to converse in an authentic way and this #InternationalWomensDay, Twitter is highlighting those voices with a Southeast Asia-wide campaign, #SheInspiresMe.

To celebrate #InternationalWomensDay, Twitter kicked off #SheInspiresMe by partnering with more than 40 creators across Southeast Asia (Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand) to create a personal #SheInspiresMe video Tweet. In the video, they share about the women that inspire them and why. They also tagged three people to encourage them to join the campaign. This series of videos was Tweeted from March 8 to 19, 2021 to pass on the inspiration to others on Twitter.

Here are some of the Tweets that were shared this International Women’s Day:

Catriona Gray

The Miss Universe 2018 finds inspiration in many women. According to her, “I feel you can never have too much inspiration, so here are a few of the women who have inspired me.”

Sen. Risa Hontiveros

According to Sen. Risa Hontiveros, “We still have a long way to go in the fight for a safe and free society for women & all persons regardless of gender/sexuality. That’s why we must continue to inspire and be inspired by one another every day.”

KC Concepcion

For Concepcion, she is inspired by her mother, Sharon Cuneta. She says, “I can only hope to take all the best parts of you and make you proud.”

KZ Tandingan

Tandingan shares that the women who inspire her are her mom, her sister, and her mentor in music, who she considers as her second mom.

Moira dela Torre

Dela Torre shares, “Thank you to all the women who remind us of life. I hope today, when you look at yourself in the mirror you see beauty despite imperfections..and that you know you are LOVED. Happy International Women’s Day.”

Kyla Alvarez

Alvarez shares her excitement to join the #SheInspiresMe campaign.

Ria Atayde

Atayde also shares her excitement to join the campaign to celebrate women.

Zephanie Dimaranan

Dimaranan says, “My mom inspired me to become the woman I am today.”

Sofia Pablo

Pablo says, “My mother inspired me to become the woman that I am today.”

Alexa Asahina

For the streamer, she introduced her sister. She said, “Thank you to all the women who remind us of how beautiful this life is. I want to remind you of all the wonderful [women] in your life.” In a separate tweet, she said, “Let’s celebrate women ALL KINDS of [women] today and every day.”

Andrea Torres

Torres Tweeted, “This International Women’s Day, I would like to give the spotlight to the woman who inspires me the most.” She then revealed that the woman who inspires her the most is her mother.

Antoinette Jadaone

Jadaone shares that the people who inspire her the most are fellow Filipina filmmakers. She said, “Who inspires me? The Filipina filmmaker, shoutout to Alyx Arumpac. Happy women’s month!” Arumpac is the writer and director of the award-winning documentary Aswang.

Joyce Pring

Pring says, “These women inspire and influence me with their strength and resilience. Hope they inspire you all too.”

Dr. Gia Sison

Dr. Gia Sison welcomed International Women’s Day with a Maya Angelou quote: “You alone are enough. You have nothing to prove to anybody.”

Inka Magnaye

For Inka Magnaye, the women who inspire her are the women in her family: her three grandmothers, her parents’ mothers, her mom’s stepmother, her ninang, titas, and of course, her mother and her sister.

Jayda Avanzado

The young singer-songwriter talked about her mom, who she considers as the strongest person that she knows. Avanzado also shared that Taylor Swift and Liza Soberano inspire her.

Kat Galang

For Galang, the women who inspire her are her mother, her sisters who stood as parents to her, and the actress Dimples Romana.

SPARK! Philippines

Maica Teves, the executive director of SPARK!, says, “With women like you inspiring so many, we know that the women coming behind us will be able to achieve all that they want to be.” SPARK! champions the development of women and youth as full partners in gender equality.

YACA Philippines

Mitzi Jonelle Tan, the international spokesperson of the Youth Advocates for Climate Action Philippines, reminded everyone to join the struggle of indigenous women and to continuously be inspired by environmental defenders.

Twitter has also launched a special emoji to celebrate #InternationalWomensDay. Available throughout the month of March, the emoji is actuated when people Tweet with the following hashtags: #PandaigdigangArawNgKababaihan, #ArawngKababaihan, #BabaeKami, #Henerasyongpantaypantay, #InternationalWomensDay, #WomensDay, #WeAreWomen, #ActForEqual, #IWD2021, #IWD, and #GenerationEquality.
