In 2001, the geek community was #shookt when “The Fellowship of the Ring,” the first in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, was adapted into a movie by Peter Jackson. We were also introduced to Orlando Bloom as Legolas, the blonde pretty elf who can shoot arrows with deadly accuracy.

In the film, Legolas helps the hobbits Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Merry Brandybuck, and Pippin Took; the wizard Gandalf the Grey; the dwarf Gimli; and men Aragorn and Boromir to deliver the legendary One Ring to Mount Doom in Mordor, the one place it can be destroyed.

Since it was released, “The Fellowship of the Ring” was a massive critical and commercial success, with many considering it to be a landmark in filmmaking, especially in fantasy. It was nominated for 13 Oscars in 2002, winning four.
