LOOK: Nadine Lustre Installs a Solar Charging Station in Siargao

Nadine Lustre, who has made Siargao her second home, partnered with Greenpeace to install a solar charging station on the island.

According to Greenpeace on Instagram, the station will allow people in the area to “use solar power to charge phones and other devices they need as they recover from #OdettePH.”

Lustre explains in the video, “The whole island still doesn’t have any power and no one really knows when it’s gonna come back. Phones will be useful to use as lights. And if there are people also who have rechargeable LED lights, they can use that as well. I’m just really happy that everyone’s helping each other.”

Siargao is one of the provinces badly hit by Odette, already described as the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines in 2021. The local government was able to do pre-emptive evacuation, but as of December 22, the death toll on the island is 19. Reports say that the death toll from the typhoon for the whole country has surpassed 300.

Relief goods

Lustre is also working with Christophe Bariou to donate relief goods to those affected.

Bariou, the founder and managing director of a luxury resort in Siargao, is Lustre’s rumored boyfriend.

On Facebook, Bariou said, “we are working day and night here to set up, coordinate and secure distribution points for reliefs goods especially rice and canned goods. Us, we are focusing on Malinao, Union and Mam On island. Distribution point in Malinao in what’s left of our warehouse will be operational tomorrow (in front of Malinao Captain Arnulfo Alcala’s house).”

There are plans to send boats to the islands, including Mamon and if possible, La Janosa and Anajawan. He and a friend are also raising funds to help those affected by Odette.

Bariou ended his post with “It’s ant work here in the island. I see everybody trying to help their own area of responsibility. Thing are finally improving but we need all the help possible.”
