LOOK: Mining Site in Compostela Valley Gives Real Gold Medals to Top Students

Graduation is the much-awaited event for our children, as well as, parents.

Truthfully, seeing our children finish their studies, with or without honors, is a spectacular feeling. Even more, when our children receive exemplary awards and medals.

Interestingly, there is a school in Compostela Valley that gives real gold medals to top students. According to the news report, the Mt. Diwata Elementary School and Mt. Diwata High School, located at the gold-rush site in Mt. Diwalwal in Monkayo, Compostela Valley, give students real gold medals.

As seen in the picture, she is one of the students to receive a 15-gram refined gold medal worth P35,000.

As mentioned in the article, the recipients are children of small-scale miners, who have settled in the area. Compostela Valley is a province located in Davao and is also considered to have the biggest gold deposit in the country.

It was also reported that the following students have received the most cherished gold medals:

  • Jolimae Bordon topped the 207 pupils at the Mt. Diwata Elementary School
  • Pearl Angelie Barabat  graduated as the Class Valedictorian at the Mt. Diwata High School

The said graduation ceremony was attended by the School’s Division superintendent Dr. Reynante Solitario, barangay captain Pedro Samillano, Division Senior High School and Human Resource and Development officer Sandy Yee.

The report further stated that Mt. Diwata Barangay Council has been reportedly giving away real gold medals for 14 years now.

Essentially, receiving medals during graduation helps children persevere. Oftentimes, they use it as motivators to boost their self-esteem.
