Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo are currently in Italy, and Guidicelli has been sharing stories on Instagram showing their time together.
He also posted a photo of the two of them after watching an opera at a historic venue.
Guidicelli started his post with, “The perfect evening for an Opera.”
He added, “Few days before our trip to Italy, the Italian ambassador recommended the famous show Aida di Giuseppe Verdi. And to perfect timing it was showing during our scheduled trip and we were able to get fantastic seats!”
Aida is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni. The story is set in Egypt after the Egyptians have captured the titular character, an Ethiopian princess. Radamès, an Egyptian military commander, is forced to choose between his love for the princess and his loyalty to his country.
Aida was commissioned by the Khedivial Opera House in Egypt, and the opera premiered there in 1871. Today, Aida is one of the most popular operas. At the New York Metropolitan Opera alone, the opera has been performed more than 1,100 times in 125 years.
Guidicelli also shared, “The Opera took place at the historic, Arena Di Verona (which was mind-blowing!). The show was fantastic with singers belting Italian lyrics with so much emotion!”
The Arena Di Verona is described as the “most renowned Veronese monument” and the first true open-air opera theatre in the world. It was built in 30 AD and was used for big events, such as gladiator fighting during Roman times. It is still in use today and will serve as the venue of the Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics in 2026.
Guidicelli ended his post by saying that he will soon create a video about their experience.
Margarita Fores, a celebrity chef, commented on the post, saying, “So absolutely happy to see you and your dearest together in Italy! I remember you telling me this was your ultimate dream!!!!!! Your Juliet is with you now.”
