LOOK: Manga Author Draws Goodbye Art for ‘Gintama’ Anime as Final Movie Premiere Draws Near

Are you ready to say goodbye to the underrated comedy anime series Gintama?

Whether you are or aren’t, manga author Hideaki Sorachi is already commemorating its forthcoming end with a new art visual for the Gintama THE FINAL movie premiering in January next year. The piece depicts a total of 34 characters tossing an assortment of weapons, objects, and other memorabilia towards the sky with the text “Bye-bye, Gin-san” written on it.

Cue the tears!

To those who are unfamiliar with the story, Gintama follows samurai Gintoki Sakata and his two friends, Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura, working odd jobs in order to pay his monthly rent. It’s weird, funny, and breaks the fourth wall often, and parodies many other popular anime in existence just for the heck of it.

The upcoming film is meant to be the finale of the series based on the manga’s climax. Gintama THE FINAL will be shown in Japanese theaters on January 8, 2021.
