“Grease is still the word!”
This is what John Travolta had to say about reuniting with co-star Olivia Newton-John to reprise their Grease roles for the first time since 1978. The pair came together for a Meet n’ Grease sing-along event at the Coral Sky Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, Florida last Friday night.
Travolta and Newton-John first appeared in their classic good-girl/bad-boy get up, looking as if they stepped right out of our screens. Newton-John’s matching yellow skirt and cardigan paired with a white blouse was a perfect complement to Travolta’s slicked-back hair and leather jacket.
Newton-John later changed to her “bad girl” ensemble, complete with the original leather jacket from the movie. The jacket had earlier been auctioned off for $243,000 to raise money for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Center. Its buyer returned the jacket for Newton-John to have it displayed at the Australia-based research institute.
The event involved a screening of the movie-musical where fans were encouraged to dress-up and sing along as well as an intimate Q&A with Travolta and Newton-John. Travolta sang a part of “Sandy” for the crowd, while Newton-John did the same with “Hopelessly Devoted To You”. Afterward, Travolta did a full performance of “Greased Lightin'” complete with support from Greasers Barry Pearl (Doody), Michael Tucci (Sonny) and Kelly Ward (Putzie).
