You really can get a lot of things in vending machines in Japan. You can buy rice, sake, umbrellas, vegetables, and even flowers. Now, we can add COVID-19 test kits to this growing list.

In several spots in Tokyo and Yokohama, you can now buy saliva-based test kits that you can use on your own. After purchasing it (Y4,500 or roughly P2,069.50), you just need to spit into a small round container, add the salt water solution, then put it in the other cylindrical tube. You need to mail it to the Takenoko ENT Clinic using the postage-paid envelope included in the package.

A report by Sora News 24 said that the process only takes five minutes.

Results will be available within 24 hours and you will receive an email.

Reports say that the COVID-19 test kits are located in temples and ramen shops. According to Time Out, here are some places where you can get them:

  • 5-4-19 Osaki, Shinagawa
  • Jyomyoin Temple, 2-6-4 Ueno-Sakuragi, Taito
  • Shinbu Sakiya Ramen, 2-10-3 Dogenzaka, Shibuya
  • Kitanorimonocho Parking, 16 Kanda-Kitanorimonocho, Chiyoda
  • Ofuna Station-front Building, 1-1-1 Kasama, Sakae, Yokohama
