Back in August 2020, Hollywood actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt posted on his social media about a project his team is working on for hitRECord, his open-collaborative production company. He was calling for submissions for “any photo” taken somewhere in the Philippines, explaining that it was for a project called “Scenes From a Fictional Film.” The project was described to be about combining “short pieces of writing to create scenes from films that don’t really exist.”
Well, now, seven months later, the finished product is here. Their chosen image? A photo of an EDSA traffic jam.

Typed out above the image is a three-liner poem that was a combination of different writing submissions as well. The poem reads: “Half of my life, gone. It’s more tiring than work. A sea of red lights.”
In his social media post, the actor wrote in his caption, “A little while ago, I asked folks in the Philippines to write some poetry based on this photo taken during an EDSA traffic jam. Writing from a few different people on my site hitRECord was turned into this three-line piece, and then—through the magic of graphic design—a final visual was made.
Thanks to all of you who participated in the project!
