LOOK: Giant Pandas Kai Kai & Jia Jia Celebrate Their Birthdays With Longevity Noodles

Kai Kai and Jia Jia, Singapore’s famous pair of giant pandas, recently celebrated their birthdays this September. Kai Kai turned 12 while Jia Jia turned 11. Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) celebrated by gifting them with a huge platter of longevity noodles.

These noodles might be more familiar to you as birthday noodles in the Chinese culture. They are the noodle dishes typically eaten on birthdays by the Chinese as a symbol of long life. WRS thought it fitting for Kai Kai and Jia Jia to “embrace their Chinese roots.”

However, this noodle dish wasn’t the typical one you would expect from a birthday feast. They were actually carrots cut up into long spirals in order to mimic noodles. It was accompanied with apples, high fibre biscuits and bamboo shoots. The meal had to be appropriately healthy for the pair of pandas, after all!

The birthday treat was plated on a bamboo platter — which Kai Kai promptly began to chomp on after the meal. Looks like he wasn’t satisfied with his full birthday meal!
