LOOK Bilibid Inmates Earn College Degrees

For these Bilibid inmates, being in jail shouldn’t get in the way of getting an education. Under the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA’s Bilibid Extension School, 20 inmates earned their Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship degrees, even while they’re serving their time.

Inmate-graduates of University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) Bilibid Extension School in Camp Sampaguita, Medium Security Compound inside New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City proudly wear their respective hoods during their commencement rites. 20 student- inmates earned Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship degree last Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at University of Perpetual Help System DALTA (UPHSD) Extension School’s 27th graduation ceremonies. Six of the graduates were already paroled before completion of their sentence because of their good behavior inside penitentiary. Around 505 graduates earned a college degree since it started in 1985.

According to the university, the institution has maintained its Ray of Hope project for three decades, offering degrees in Entrepreneurship, Business Administration Major in Marketing Management, and a course in Computer Hardware Servicing. The Bilibid Extension School is a “comprehensive program of rehabilitating the medium risk prisoners through education, livelihood, skills training and development.”
