Japanese artist Takumi has beautifully brought together the ancient Ukiyo-e art with modern comic book art through his re-imaginations of our favorite ‘Avengers’ characters.
Ukiyo-e is a Japanese art form, wherein artists create woodblock prints and paintings, typically of gorgeous women, kabuki actors, and sumo wrestlers, as well as scenes from history, travel landscapes, and nature. Literally translater, ‘ukiyo-e’ means ‘pictures of the floating world’.
Takumi’s own illustrations of the Avengers are absolutely stunning, incorporating traditional Japanese symbols and patterns. My personal favorite is the sumo wrestling-type art of The Hulk, but he has also reimagined Thanos, Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, Ronin, Captain Marvel, War Machine, Ant-Man, and Rocket Raccoon.
