When ‘Castlevania’ was given to Adi Shankar, it was definitely daunting because animation in the US at the time was seen as something for children or purely for comedy. That aside, they also had to literally create a production process in the production pipeline that simply didn’t exist. In other words, they had to build it from the ground up. The good news is, though, now that the process has been built, we’re gonna get to see more more amazing episodes of ‘Castlevania’ on Netflix soon. (Watch the trailer for Season 2 here.)
I think the best thing about ‘Castlevania’ is that you can really feel Adi’s passion for it when you watch it – and I could definitely feel it when we were interviewing him, as well. It is clear from the start that ‘Castlevania’ was made by fans for fans, and Adi backs this up. “There was no agenda here other than a bunch of people who loved ‘Castlevania’ got in a room together and said, ‘Hey, we wanna make a ‘Castlevania’ show.'” And that’s just one of the reasons why we love the show.
‘Castlevania’ aside, though, Adi has also revealed that he is currently working on something new. During our interview, he stated that he wasn’t allowed to say much other than “that it’s so dope, it’s gonna blow people’s minds. It’s so tight, I wish I could say the title out loud.”
Well, he didn’t have to say it out loud because I did my digging and found this Facebook post of his from last year where he said: “I’m happy to let you guys know that I’ve selected my next project! I played the first edition of Assassin’s Creed the year I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my dream. At that moment, I knew absolutely no one in the industry and could never have imagined that one day Ubisoft would ask me to take the world of Assassin’s Creed and create an original story set in it as an anime series. If anyone tells you not to follow your passion in life, they are wrong.”
YES!!! ADI SHANKAR’S NEXT PROJECT IS ‘ASSASSIN’S CREED’. MY VIDEO GAME-LOVING HEART IS REJOICING ONCE AGAIN. I. CANNOT. WAIT.
The live-action movie of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ came out in 2016 to bad reviews. With Adi at the helm, however, I have nothing but positivity flowing through my veins for this. What would you like to see in the upcoming ‘Assassin’s Creed’ anime series?
