Alicia Vikander is quickly shaping up to be one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. The 28-year-old actress is most known for her role as Gerda in The Danish Girl, which landed her an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress in 2016. She also turned heads as she played a mysterious robot who turned vengeful in Ex Machina.
But it seems that Alicia is eager to avoid being pigeonholed, taking on action films as she plays yet another iconic character: Lara Croft!
Tomb Raider is getting a reboot and with Alicia taking the reins from Angelina Jolie, it seems that her interpretation of the character could be pretty promising.
Alicia’s Lara Croft also comes with an interesting new backstory, according to Vanity Fair:
Seven years after the disappearance of her father, 21-year-old Lara has refused to take the reins of his global business empire, instead working as a bike courier in London while taking college classes. Eventually she becomes inspired to investigate her father’s disappearance and travels to his last-known location: a tomb on an island somewhere off the coast of Japan.
Tomb Raider is coming to theaters in March 2018.
