Live-Action Adaptation of Mulan Gets a Release Date

10 Disney Cartoons That Are Going to Have a Live Action Adaptation 4

Mulan is the OG Disney Princess who saved China instead of letting a man rescue her. And after a string of successful Disney films that are getting the live-action treatment, Mulan is next, and will be released in in 3D in November 2018.

There is still no word who will play the titular princess, but there is a global casting search for a Chinese actress to play her.

The 1998 animated film follows Mulan, a young Chinese girl who disguises herself as a man to replace her father in the army for war.

The film was well-received, with Rotten Tomatoes ranking it 86%.

The consensus said, “Exploring themes of family duty and honor, Mulan breaks new ground as a Disney film, while still bringing vibrant animation and sprightly characters to the screen.”

There is also no word who will direct the adaptation, but writers Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who wrote Jurassic World and the Avatar sequel, rewrote the script for a more complex adaptation, combining the Disney classic and the actual legend of Hua Mulan.
