LISTEN: Lady Gaga is Back with “Perfect Illusion”

Singer Lady Gaga has been quiet since the release of her studio album Artpop in 2013. Yes, she had an album of covers with jazz legend Tony Bennett and starred in American Horror Story, but she hasn’t released any original songs since “Applause.” That changes now as Mother Monster just released the audio her new single “Perfect Illusion,” the lead to an upcoming album.

The song has the trademarks that Gaga fans love: strong vocals and a danceable beat reminiscent of The Fame Monster, Gaga’s sophomore album.

“Perfect Illusion” was written by Gaga, Mark Ronson, Kevin Parker, and BloodPop.

According to Ronson, “It’s some of my favorite music I’ve ever worked on. It’s like this different side of her voice that I guess I never really heard before. Because the songs are so personal, it’s quite husky and wounded and not as maybe massive as some of the other recordings. It’s a voice that gives you a hug almost.”

The song deals with a relationship not being love, but an illusion.
