On YouTube, Danao uploaded his cover of the translated song and a snippet thereof on Twitter. “Mabuhay ang hustisya. Mabuhay ang demokrasya. Mabuhay ang karapatang pantao (Long live justice. Long live democracy. Long live human rights),” he said.

“Bella Ciao” originated as an Italian protest folk song in the late 19th century by women who worked in the paddy fields who sang it to fight back against harsh working conditions. It then became an anthem of the anti-fascist resistance against the Nazi German forces. Now, it is sung as a hymn of freedom.
