For Lea Salonga fans eager to see her in new material, rejoice! The Disney Princess and The Voice of the Philippines judge will return to Broadway!
Salonga announced today that she will play the lead role in Allegiance, a musical written by George Takei, who played Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise in Star Trek. Takei will be joining Salonga in the cast, with American actor Telly Leung.

Allegiance is based on Takei’s experiences, and follows two siblings who choose different paths to protect their family during World War II. Salonga announced her role this morning with a series of tweets, urging other Asian-American actors to audition.
Allegiance premiered in 2012, when Salonga, Takei, and Leung performed at the Old Globe Theater in San Diego in 2012. The musical will officially open on November 8.
