It happens to everyone, including Disney Legend and Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Salonga revealed that an entire family walked out of a play she was starring in. The play in question was Fun Home, where she plays the wife of a closeted gay man who has affairs with other men. She also has a lesbian daughter, who has an intimate scene with another woman on stage.

This prompted a father to drag his family out of the theater during one show.

She said, “There were people from the Atlantis office who were at the lobby, witnessed it. We got first-hand information. They were screaming in the lobby: ‘There are lesbians on stage! We thought this was a Disney show!’”

To that, Salonga said, “Just because Lea’s name is attached to it, it doesn’t mean it’s going to be wholesome, especially if it’s in theater.”

She added, “Sir, research-research ‘pag may time!” [“Sir, research if you have time!”]

This month, Salonga will be starring in another dark production: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

In it, she plays Mrs. Lovett, the accomplice of the serial killer Sweeney Todd.

It will be staged from October 11 to 27 at The Theatre at Solaire.
