Lav Diaz’s “Ang Panahon ng Halimaw” to Premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival

Noted Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz has a new film and like his previous works, will premiere internationally. His latest project Ang Panahon ng Halimaw is set to premiere at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), which will be held in Germany in February.

The film, which is described as a rock opera, will also join the main competition of the festival, where it will compete against 23 films from established directors like Gus Van Sant and Wes Anderson.

It stars Piolo Pascual, Shaina Magdayao, Pinky Amador, Bituin Escalante, Hazel Orencio, Bart Guingona, Joel Saracho, Don Melvin Boongaling, Lilit Reyes, Angel Aquino, Ian Lomongo, Noel Sto Domingo, Bradley Liew, Junji Delfino, Dub Lau, and Gan Hui Yee.

Lav Diaz is a critically-acclaimed director whose films have been recognized at the Venice Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, Berlinale, and the New York Film Festival. In 2015, his film Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan was screened at the Un Certain Regard section of 2013 Cannes Film Festival and was selected as the Philippines’ entry to the Best Foreign Language Film category at the 87th Academy Awards. His films Ang Babaeng Humayo won the top prize at the Venice Film Festival, while Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis was awarded the Alfred Bauer Silver Bear at the Berlinale.
