What happens when you turn your favorite Filipino merienda into a refreshing drink? If you find it hard to imagine, let your curiosity be satisfied and your thirst be quenched with Lako!
Lako is a newly-opened store that has created merienda-inspired dessert shakes made with all-natural locally-sourced ingredients. Created by childhood friends hailing from Tondo, Manila, these innovative drinks aim to showcase unique Filipino flavors while bringing nostalgia for the homegrown snacks we love.
They offer five flavors so far:
Champorado Shake – PHP 150
Itโs no surprise that the Champorado Shake is an instant favorite upon first sip. Itโs easy to fall in love with its sweet chocolatey flavor and grainy texture. Itโs highly addicting without the extra guilt!
Yema Cassava Shake – PHP 150
The Yema Cassava shake won my heart, though itโs probably because of my bias towards the sweet custard candy.
Leche Flan con Langka Shake – PHP 150
I never expected leche flan and langka to go so well together, but somehow it works! The creaminess of the leche flan, which isnโt overpowered by the langka flavor, has made this drink so irresistibly indulgent.
Bibingka Shake – PHP 150
Now, the Bibingka Shake truly surprised me. Thereโs no other way to describe it but that it literally tastes like bibingka in a drink form. You can even taste the little chunks of itlog na maalat!
Halo-Halo Shake – PHP 150
The Halo-Halo Shake is by far my favorite out of the five. It takes me back to hot summer days of my youth, just enjoying my cold treat under the sweltering sun. It delights me that Lako has chosen its ingredients well for this drink, most likely due to them taking into careful consideration what each of us likes and dislikes in our halo-halo. Iโm not even kidding when I say that I easily finished this drink in one go!
Lako is already working to open its second branch in Caloocan where they will soon launch their sixth flavor, Ube Ensaymadaโand we can hardly wait!
