KUGCHUGTIKATAKTUGTAKATAKAPUG is a dance production about two friends and their journey to reach their dreams as dancers. The show will run on November 9 and 10, with two shows per day (1:00 PM and 7:00 PM) at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, 5th Floor School of Design and Arts Campus Theater with tickets priced at Php 200 each.
“Peter is a young man in his 20’s living in a chaotic barangay in Manila. Him and Tony, his closest friend and neighbor, find an escape in their unimaginable situation through dancing. Peter and Tony dream of going abroad and bring home glory to their neighborhood and country.
“The two discovers from their dance coach that there is a mega dance crew looking for new and young recruits who will fly with them to the United States of America. Peter and Tony eagerly trained to get in the dance crew but in the end, only one of them will be chosen.”
Directed and choreographed by Elijah Mendoza, KUGCHUGTIKATAKTUGTAKATAKAPUG is a play that will feature original Pinoy music and will highlight the reality of being a Filipino dancer.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Elijah Erick D. Mendoza discovered his passion for dance during his high school years through the influence of his friends. He continued to follow his love for dancing by taking a degree as a dance major in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts.
During his first year in college, he became a member of Team Elite and has participated in various competitions with the group. To name a few are Remix’13: Labor of Love, Remix’14: Count 1 and Remiks ’15 Open Category, where the group successively won as champions.
In 2016, he represented his college in the Hong Kong Challenge Cup Dance Competition where he and his duo, Carlos Serrano III, won Gold in the Jazz Division. In the same year, Elijah became part of Nitrous Image where they competed in Battlegrounds Philippines (1st runner-up), VIBE Philippines (Champion) and World of Dance Philippines (Champion) and World of Dance Finals 2017 in Los Angeles, California (4th Place).
Elijah is currently in his last year in college. With the goal to tell the stories of his own success and challenges he faced as a dancer, he created KUGCHUGTIKATAKTUGTAKATAKAPUG as his thesis production.
