Kris Aquino surprised friends and fans on the evening of October 24, Sunday, when she revealed that she is now engaged to be married!
In an Instagram post, Kris posted a video montage wherein it showed pictures of beautiful rose bouquets before announcing her engagement with the man whom she called her “best friend” and the one she’s “spending the rest of my life with”โformer Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel Senen Sarmiento.
“We discussed this post and I thought about it carefullyโฆ marami kasi sa followers ko ang nagtatanong kung kamusta na ko because matagal na kong nawala,” Kris admitted in the caption of her post before she recounted the “many stressful events” that have happened in the past year, namely the pandemic and the untimely passing of her brother, former president Noynoy Aquino, which affected her health greatly.
However, she credited her brother for being her “matchmaker in Heaven” that she met her now fiancรฉ.
“Itโs been exactly 4 months since we so unexpectedly lost our brother. Sure ako, ayaw nya talagang iwanan si โbunsoโ na walang magbabantay at magaalaga na siguradong pinagkakatiwalaan nya. Somehow I believe there really was a matchmaker in heaven who must be smiling nowโI can almost hear his voice telling me, โKristina, tama na, respect the fact na gusto ni Mel ng tahimik na buhay.โ And finally, โbunsoโ has learned to obey,” she shared.
She then wrote a sweet message of love and gratitude to her future husband.
“To my best friend and the man I said yes to spending the rest of my life with, thank you for as Bimb said loving me for me, with no agenda, and for being just an overall good and patient man. Itโs unreal how much more calm & peaceful I feel now that youโre here. We would never have met nor reconnected had it not been for Noy.”
“Thank you to my kuya, kahit wala na sya ramdam na ramdam ko na kahit ilang beses kaming nagkatampuhan, kahit kailan gagawa talaga sya ng paraan na ma-assure kami nila kuya Josh at Bimb kung gaano nya kami kamahal at hindi talaga sya papayag na ma feel namin na kami ay mapapabayaan,” she continued. “We love you and we miss you. But THANK YOU, you must have known how broken Iโd be to lose you, so you made sure there was someone who not only helped wipe away my tears, heโs made it possible for me to smile and laugh again. Dumating nung hindi ko hinahanap o inaasahanโkaya nga tama silang lahat na nagsabi in Godโs perfect time.”
Ending her post, she said: “We agreed, whatโs personal shall remain private so hanggang dito lang ang pwede kong ma share. Except I guess to say as much as I am proud to be an Aquino, looking forward na kong maging Sarmiento.”
Mel Sarmiento was formerly a vice mayor of Calbayog City, the representative of the 1st District of Samar, and then served as secretary of the DILG under P-Noy’s term as president.
