Fashion Designer Kim Rieul, Known for Designing BTS’ Hanbok, Passes Away

Korean fashion designer Kim Rieul has passed away. He was 32.

According to Korean media, the renowned designer was found dead in Namwon, South Korea on February 11. His family later confirmed his passing. The cause of his death has not been disclosed.

Kim Rieul first gained widespread attention in 2016 for adding modern twists to traditional Korean clothing, especially hanbok, which he showcases under his own brand Rieul.

In 2020, he rose to fame for designing the iconic hanbok worn by BTS during their performance of “Idol” at Gyeongbokgung Palace on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.” He also designed stunning pieces for MONSTA X, CLC, Zico, and Tiger JK.

Among his notable achievements was being named one of Forbes magazine’s โ€œ30 Under 30 Asiaโ€ honorees in 2023.
