Kanye says he interrupted Taylor Swift in 2009 because God told him to

The 2009 VMAs were a wild ride because of that situation with Kanye West and Taylor Swift. For those who don’t remember, Taylor was just accepting her award when Kanye West, seated at the front, interrupted her speech in order to praise Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” music video. It became meme-worthy, with people saying “I’ma let you finish” whenever they interrupted someone else. It was a moment that was stamped into our collective consciousness forever and sparked what many saw was a feud between the two.

Now, in 2020, the entire issue has been brought up again after many exchanges between the two (and also Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian West). In an interview with Nick Cannon, Kanye revealed that he only ever interrupted the folklore singer-songwriter because God told him to do it.

“He wants me to say this now,” he started. “If God didn’t want me to run onstage and say Beyonce had the best video, he wouldn’t have sat me in the front row.”
