Jolt of Glory

Every once in a while, amid the trance and blur that is our fast-paced daily lives, we’re awoken by electrifying experiences that jolt us momentarily out of the trance to ponder, catch a breath and slow down. Such experiences may come in a form of a 3-hour concert by their favorite band; others may prefer a week-long Subic trip, while for some, it’s as simple as a 3-hour Avengers: Infinity War movie—to each his own.

My own jolt, one I so badly need after a very toxic semester, will come in the form of an event called National Youth Festival or NYF at Chali Beach Resort, Cagayan de Oro. Though It has yet to happen (since it’s on June 6-10, 2018) and I have yet to experience it myself, I’m certain from hearing narratives of other people’s electrifying experience of it that it will also be my own.

NYF is an event hosted by Christ’s Youth in Action (CYA), a Catholic movement with 18 chapters across the country that aim to integrate the doctrine and Gospel in our daily lives as college student. Similarly, NYF follows that same overarching goal and aims to bring us to an encounter with the Lord with plenaries and prayer. The talks a participant attends will depend on the track they choose to focus on(ie. If they think they lack in it or if they think it would help them in their job etc). There’s Evangelization, Issues, Leadership, Apologetics, Sexuality, World Class Christians, Women of God and Men of God. It’s basically TED talks: Faith Edition without the transcript with God and prayer at the center.

Admittedly, only the first six words of the description ’four days at a beach resort interacting with 400 different people doing various Godly talks and activities’ baited me to join NYF. But later I’ve realized. this was the chance to reconnect to Him that I (we) unconsciously put aside and open my (our) ears and eyes to the things God wants me (us) to see and hear: about the faith, about Him and maybe even about myself (ourselves). Knowing I’ll be sharing this experience with 400 other people with the same faith and different struggles of their own makes it all the more life-giving and memorable.

This is the experience with God we need to jolt us out of our own individual trances of frustrations and failures and wake us up—to triumph and reign victorious and glorious through power that only comes from Him.

Every once in a while, amid the trance and blur that is our fast-paced daily lives, we’re awoken by electrifying experiences that jolt us momentarily out of the trance to ponder, catch a breath and slow down. The experiences may come in any form, but truly the most electrifying of all will be basking in His presence and glory.
