John Hurt, the Actor Who Played Mr. Ollivander, Passes Away

Sir John Vincent Hurt, an illustrious actor who is notably known for playing the role of Mr. Ollivander in the Harry Potter film franchise, passed away on January 27, five days after his 77th birthday. No cause of death has been reported.

Hurt has a long career in acting, spanning six decades that cover film and TV. For the younger generation, he is known for appearing in Harry Potter films as Garrick Ollivander, the proprietor of Ollivanders, a shop that sells wands to students. He was first introduced in the first film, The Sorcerer’s Stone, but he also played a crucial role in the last The Deathly Hallows, which was divided into two films.

Apart from Harry Potter, Hurt also starred in Alien, The Elephant Man, Hellboy, V For Vendetta, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Snowpiercer, and Jackie. On TV, he was on three episodes of Doctor Who.

In 2015, the actor was knighted for his services to drama.

He is survived by his wife and two children.
