As John Estrada gears up for the premiere of his new TV5 show with none other than Ellen Adarna as his leading lady, the actor-comedian is confident that old and new fans alike will get to see a side to the 32-year-old actress that they may not know of.
During a media conference for John En Ellen, John admitted that he was the one who actually pushed for Ellen to star alongside him in this upcoming series. “I’m a follower of [Ellen] and I’m proud to say that I am one of her fans ever since,” he said. “Nung gumawa kami ng cast ni Bong [Sta. Maria] at Direk Willy [Cuevas], I really felt something na sabi ko, ‘you know what, iba ‘yung character nitong babaeng ‘to.'”
He said that though he knows about Ellen’s controversies over the past years, he wants people to know that there is more to her than that. “She’s so bubbly, she’s a very good soul, and I’m glad na, kailanman matapos ‘tong John En Ellen, I’m just glad that I met this beautiful human being. She brings great energy on the set, she’s bubbly, she’s a character. She speaks her mind, she’s honest,” he shared.
He also mentioned how he found Ellen to be effortlessly funny which made her the perfect fit for the role of Mrs. Kulantong, his character’s wife.
“Alam niyo kung meron man kayong mga ‘bad image’ of Ellen Adarna pakitapon niyo na po ‘yan dahil hindi siya ‘yan,” he stressed.
Ellen herself expressed joy in having to make her showbiz comeback through a television show that’s just light and fun and doesn’t take time away from her son Elias.
“Ang saya, masaya. At first I was kinda nervous kasi ang tagal na, it’s been three years. But ‘yung set namin, ‘yung John En Ellen family, they’re very warm and fun so it doesn’t feel like work at all,” she told the press.
John En Ellen will premiere on TV5 this Sunday, January 24. It will tell a story of a husband, a wife, and their twin children who, despite not being well-off financially, find ways to keep a positive outlook and stay faithful to one another, even with Ellen’s rich businessman father schemes to separate them from one another.
