Joey Generoso, or simply Joey G, celebrated his 30th year in the music industry with a concert titled “Joey G Beyond: Three Decades of Music.” To celebrate with him, Joey G invited megastar Sharon Cuneta as a guest artist. Unknown to most, Sharon is actually a very close friend of Joey G’s. In fact, she used to watch Joey G way back in the ’80s during when Side A, Joey G’s former band, regularly performed at the Hyatt Regency Manila.

During the concert, Sharon took the time to talk about her friendship with Joey G. “Joey, in the beginning, he was with Side A. Hindi pa po sikat ang Side A. I would go to the Calesa bar, the former Hyatt, and watch them,” she told the audience. “Now when Joey just sent me a text, ‘Hi!

I’m celebrating my 30th on June 22. Can you guest?’ Sabi ko, Diyos ko naman. Tumatakbo na, nanginginig pa. And then he said, ‘Isang duet lang, okay na tayo.’ [I said,] sayang naman yung punta ko, kakanta lang ako ng isa. Papagawa pa akong damit eh,” she joked while the audience laughed.

“So, nadagdagan naman. Tapos, ano, sabi ko kanina pagdating ko sabi ko kay Joey, ‘Joey, wag mo ako babayaran. Magkano ba ang bayad sayo dahil guest mo ako?'” She took a moment to laugh and said, “Because I really really never loved a band as much as I loved Side A.”

It’s been 3 years since Joey G decided to part ways with Side A, but Side A’s music will always be with him. For his performance with Sharon, Joey G took out his guitar and played his most iconic Side A songs while Sharon Cuneta took over the vocals. They would even harmonize every once in a while. Joey G and Sharon performed Side A originals “Hold On”, “Set You Free”, and “Tell Me.”

After these three songs, some of the people from the audience started requesting for OPM classic Forevermore, Side A’s most popular hit. Since the song wasn’t in the original setlist, everyone got excited when Joey G started playing the song. Even Sharon got excited because she started jumping up and down. The two then did an impromptu duet of the song. Sharon even said, “Favorite song ko ‘to.”

Joey G and Sharon also performed other songs such as their only original duet, “All This Time”, and OPM classic, “Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko.”

Joey G Beyond: Three Decades of Music was held at The Theatre at Solaire with special guest Sharon Cuneta and the special participation of dance group A Team.
