Jessy Mendiola Says Ring Maker Spoiled Proposal Surprise During Breakup with Luis — Here’s What Happened

Jessy Mendiola has come forward to speak her “truth” after she and Luis Manzano became the subject of controversy regarding their engagement ring.

Over the weekend, jewelry company Radiant Lux Jewelry published a statement demanding to be given proper credit for creating Jessy’s ring after the actress tagged a different company, Manila Diamond Studio, in her engagement photos on Saturday, December 12.

Luis was the first to respond to the allegations, clarifying that Radiant Lux Jewelry only helped them “procure the main stone” while Jessy collaborated with Manila Diamond Studio to design the final ring. He then told fans and followers to stay tuned for their vlog post explaining the reason behind this.

The vlog was then posted on Tuesday night, December 15, and turned out to be an emotional confession as Jessy revealed that their engagement story was not as happy as it should have been.

Apparently, Luis’s plans to propose to Jessy had been spoiled even before he could have the chance to do so. What’s worse is that it happened at a time when Jessy and Luis were going through a rough patch that led to a brief breakup last May. But the person from Radiant Lux Jewelry, who Jessy considered a good friend of hers, kept “badgering” Luis to claim the engagement ring, that he had already paid in full, during that tough period and, at one point, actually showed the ring to Jessy.

“Can you imagine the feeling ng isang babae na hindi kayo ayos ng boyfriend mo tapos pinasuot sa iyo ‘yung ring? Na naisip mo what could have been na if okay kaya kami ni Luis, magpro-propose kaya siya?” she said in frustration.

[“Can you imagine the feeling of being a woman who isn’t on good terms with her boyfriend and was told to wear the engagement ring? Wondering what could have been, that if Luis and I were okay, would he propose to me?”]

Nawala sa amin ‘yung feeling of excitement na luluhod ‘yung lalaki sa harap mo, kinakabahan, hindi niya alam anong sasabihin sa ‘yo, tapos tatanungin ka niya ng, ‘Will you marry me?’ Nawala sa amin ‘yun.

[“We lost the feeling of excitement when a man would get down on one knee in front of you, nervous, not knowing what to say to you, and then ask you ‘Will you marry me?’ We were deprived of that experience.”]

The two eventually patched things up and decided to “heal” from the unfortunate circumstance by deciding to have the ring reset, remarking that they have the right to as owners of the diamond.

“On the other hand, claiming that the ring design is yours even if it is obviously already a completely different design is misleading. It is heartbreaking that there are people like this who would go extra lengths to destroy other people’s happiness. We chose to keep quiet about this but now that they won’t stop posting about it, we want people to hear our side,” she lamented.
