People who have been eagerly waiting for the “Darna” revival starring Jane De Leon would be happy to know that it’s still coming as a television series. However, it seems that the director who was supposed to helm the project is no longer going to be a part of it.
Jerrold Tarog, who was originally tied to “Darna” as its director when it was supposed to be a movie last year, regretfully shared the news on Twitter. “Unfortunately, I’m not going to be involved in the TV series due to scheduling conflicts,” he explained.
However, he did reveal that he may still make a future film for the Mars Ravelo Komiks Universe which includes many other beloved Pinoy superheroes like Captain Barbell, Lastikman, and Dyesebel.
“Some doors remain open regarding my future involvement in the Ravelo universe. We will see. For now, I wish ABS-CBN & @Imjanedeleon all the best. Let’s continue to support them,” he said.
When a netizen asked if it’s still possible to get a “Darna” movie in the future aside from the series, all Jerrold could do is hope. “Sana. That’s up to the studio,” he replied.

It was in August 2020 when news broke out that the film adaptation of “Darna” was facing indefinite postponement due to public health concerns and filming restrictions amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In December, it was revealed that it will turn into a teleserye instead. As of now, it’s unknown who will be replacing Jerrold as the director.
