Jennylyn Mercado didn’t mince words when she received a rather harsh comment belittling single moms like her on Twitter.
In a series of tweets, the 33-year-old actress penned a letter addressed to fellow single parents, telling them to never be put down by degrading words such as the one in the screenshot she shared because, in her words, “we are more powerful than they think we are.”

“To all the single moms out there, Never let comments like this get to you. Having a kid early doesn’t make you less of a woman. In fact it’s the opposite. Being a single parent made us stronger than ever,” she said.
Her statement comes after she spotted a tweet made by a Filipino netizen who joked, “Respeto naman sa mga babaeng inanakan lang (Give some respect to the women who just got knocked up)!”
“Mahirap maging nanay at tatay ng ating (mga) anak pero kinakaya natin (It’s really difficult to be parents to our child/children but we still manage),” Jennylyn continued. “Kaya (So) always hold your head up high. We are more powerful than they think we are.”
“And for those people na minamaliit pa rin kami hanggang ngayon (who continue to belittle us ’till now), I feel so sorry for you,” she continued. “Lahat ng mga kritisismo sa pagkatao namin nasabi na samin (All the criticisms about our character have already been thrown our way), and yet here we are. Raising our kid(s) the best we can. Whatever you say, You can and will never bring a strong woman down.”
