Japan has already chosen their ambassadors for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, and while the event is still three years away, the Tokyo Olympics Committee wasted no time in drumming up anticipation for their ambassadors.
And just who are their ambassadors? The committee has confirmed Son Goku will be one of them. No, you didn’t read that wrong: the beloved Dragonball Z character will be representing the Tokyo Olympics!
Joining Son Goku are other well-known Japanese characters such as Naruto, Luffy, Shin Chan, Pretty Cure, Sailor Moon, and Astroboy!
So why are the ambassadors made up of animated characters, you ask? Well, according to the committee, this is done in an effort to entice younger fans. Plus, Japan is really putting an emphasis on their popular culture that has captured the hearts of fans worldwide. What better way to represent modern Japan than animé?
