If you’ve spent most of your trips to Tokyo, Japan walking around anime mecca Akihabara or the seaside destination Odaiba, chances are you’re very much familiar with the Gundam café. Unfortunately, this iconic establishment is reaching the end of its over-a-decade-long run serving delicious food and refreshing drinks to fans of the popular franchise.
Gundam Café made the announcement on November 1, taking a moment to thank its patrons for all the memories since they first opened shop in April 2010.
“We opened our first cafe in Akihabara in April of 2010, and our customers have supported us at every step along the way. On behalf of our entire staff, we are more grateful to you than words can express.
We don’t have much time left, but we will continue doing our utmost so that everyone who visits can have wonderful memories to take home, and we hope you’ll enjoy yourselves at our cafes right up until the very end.”*

Gundam Café had four branches around Japan, two of which are in Tokyo, one in Osaka, and the last one in Fukuoka. Gundam Café Osaka will be closing on January 10, 2022, while the rest will close on January 30.
Meanwhile, the café located at the latest Gundam attraction, Gundam Factory Yokohama facility, will continue operations for as long as the facility remains open, until March 2022.
It is unknown if the Gundam Cafés will just be revamped and reopen later on or if this will be the last time we’ll ever get to enjoy Gundam-themed food and drinks. Guess all we can do for now is to wait and find out eventually.
