Japan Just Created the World’s First Edible Face Mask

Leave it to Japan to think of the craziest innovations.

Company Goku no Kimochi The Labo just created the world’s first edible face mask out of the popular local pastry melon pan which lets wearers protect themselves from the virus while simultaneously breathing in the wonderful aroma of deliciously sweet bread.

They partnered with Tokyo’s famous melon pan chain, Melon de Melon, to make the masks which look exactly what you’d imagine them to be: a huge melon pan with strings attached for you to loop around your ears.

Yup, it looks strange, we know. But you’d be as surprised as we were when you find out that this edible melon pan mask is actually effective in providing you a high level of protection as proven through proper product testing at mask testing institute Unitika Garmentec Research Institute. Reportedly, it performs the same if not better than other commercially available masks! Mind. Blown.

Of course, the company only plans to release it just for fun and not as serious protective equipment. It is currently being sold online for delivery within Japan in packs of five for 1,800 yen (approximately PHP 795). But honestly, you can just make one on your own at home.
