According to a report by Kyodo News Plus, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has tightened tourist visa slots for Filipinos due to a significant increase in visitors driven by the weak yen.

The embassy stated on its official website that visa applications have been increasing at an “unprecedented rate,” following the COVID-19 pandemic. It also announced its upcoming transition to a visa center system for more efficient visa processing.
Several travel agencies have already announced that they are temporarily suspending the acceptance of visa applications.
The Japan National Tourism Organization noted that approximately 818,700 Filipino tourists visited Japan in 2024, marking a 31.6% increase from the previous year and setting a record high for the second consecutive year.
Earlier this month, the embassy announced that single-entry and multiple-entry temporary visa applications may take several weeks, urging aspiring visitors to submit their applications at least two months before their intended travel date.
