Jackie Chan Almost Drowns While Filming, Movie Director Breaks Down

Chinese action star Jackie Chan is known and loved by fans and the movie industry for being able to perform his own stunts, no matter how tough, but his recent feat went a bit too far.

It was reported on a Chinese news site that Chan had found himself trapped under a rock while filming a jet ski scene for his newest film Vanguard. Though he was at risk of drowning, Chan willed himself to stay calm as the crew came to his rescue.

Movie director Stanley Tong wasn’t as calm as Chan was, however, and admitted to the Beijing press that he was terrified of the worst that could happen. So when he saw that the actor had been saved, “I just could not control my tears,” he said.

It only dawned on Chan the gravity of his accident when he went home that very same day. He shared, “When I took a shower later that night and remembered the incident, I suddenly felt really scared and started shaking. I was thinking about how I could have so easily died.”

Chan has suffered many fractures and injuries during the course of his long career as he rarely uses stunt doubles.

His new film Vanguard, which is about a group of security guards who rescue hostages kidnapped by an international mercenary organization, is set to be released on Chinese New Year,  January 25, 2020.
