The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) initially targeted June as the time to resume Voter’s Registration, but now it’s official. According to a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, the COMELEC has announced that the voter registration period will resume on August 1, 2019, and will end on September 30, 2019.

“Voter registration is expected to run from August 1 to September 30, 2019, inclusive of Saturdays and holidays,” Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a statement.

Reports mention that 61,843,771 people were registered voters during the May midterm elections. For the recent May 2019 elections, it was recently reported that there were 2.5 Million new Filipinos who registered to vote where it exceeded the initial expectations of COMELEC where they initially anticipated less than 2 Million. As opposed to last year, Jimenez expects that around 2 million new voters will register in this upcoming period.

If you did not have the opportunity to vote for the individuals who you deem worthy of letting our country prosper, make sure that you register for the next election: the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in May 2020. Last year, the COMELEC spokesman encouraged Filipinos to register because it “means you’re in a position to help bring about actual change”.

“Sangguniang Kabataan voters need not register anew upon turning 18; their names will automatically be transferred, from the SK List of Voters to the regular List of Voters,” he added.
