It’s Confirmed, “Fast and Furious 9” Will Be Set in Outer Space

Fast and Furious 9

The Fast and Furious franchise is exploring the final frontier. Michelle Rodriguez confirmed on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show that the ninth film will be set in space.

She said, “Oh, no way. How did you guys find that out? See what happens? People start talking behind the scenes, man. When a movie doesn’t come out and forget about it, things get out. Nobody was supposed to know that…”

Rodriguez added, “Oh, well, no, I’m not, I’m not, I’m not lucky enough to hit space, but we did get a female writer and showed a lot of love, I think, on this one. Thanks to…Justin Lin. We were able to, to find a little bit more attention and love for the girls in the movie. And so I’m really hopeful that that, that shows through in the final product.”

Ludacris earlier hinted at the space setting last July. In an interview on the same platform, presenter Julia Cunningham wondered how the franchise could go even higher. She said, “I don’t even know, creatively, what they could come up with to wow us. Space has to be involved, submarines… I can’t even imagine what happens in the next movie.”

The rapper and actor responded, “You just said something very important. I will say that you are very intuitive, cause you said something right, but I’m not going to give it away.”

When Cunningham said, “It was space, I said space!” Ludacris joked, “I don’t know what you said, you went hazy a little bit.”

This May, Fast and Furious screenwriter Chris Morgan also talked about the possibility of a film going to space. He told Entertainment Weekly, “I would never shoot down space. Never, never. I would literally never shoot down anything, as long as it hits the parameters: ‘Is it badass? is it awesome? Will the audience love it? And will it not break faith with the audience as they’re watching it?’ I’m down for whatever.”
