Sooooo… It’s the time of the year again.
It’s April 20 and in this certain “culture,” it meant puffing something at 4:20 PM.
However, in these trying times, we need something to happen to lighten the mood without breaking the law, and Twitter is one step ahead of us.
Trending right now is #LegalizeMaruya, a play on word on “Legalize Marijuana” since it’s 420 after all.
So, instead of smoking joint, the Twitterverse is filled with sugar-sprinkled deep-fried banana fritters (maruya).

Well, count me in! I stan #LegalizeMaruya. Although my doctor said that if I want to lose weight, I needed turon more. 😀
For the unfamiliar, 420, 4:20, or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) is cannabis culture slang for marijuana consumption, especially smoking around the time 4:20 PM, and also refers to cannabis-oriented celebrations that take place annually on April 20 (which is 4/20 in U.S. form). However, cannabis is illegal in the Philippines so don’t smoke that joint, eat maruya instead. 🙂
