Is the Philippines flattening the curve?

The phrase “flatten the curve” has been known worldwide as one of the goals of imposing lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This strategy aims to reduce the number of positive coronavirus cases found daily to prevent the continuous increase to the point that health care systems fail.

A website called endcoronavirus.org released information as to which countries are actually flattening the curve. Additionally, there are also visual representations that show which countries should take action because the number of cases still seems to increase.

  • acting quickly without having to wait for more data
  • isolating away from home
  • implementing stricter travel restrictions
  • performing a massive amount of testing
  • requiring face masks for all
  • continuing the practice of social distancing
  • being smart and patient as not to reopen very early

Metro Manila, which has the highest number of cases in the Philippines, is still under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) tentatively until May 15. Deciding whether to lift ECQ or not by that time is still ongoing.
