Intramuros’ Citytrail Manila: Salomon Offers the Best of Both Trail and Road Runs
Salomon Philippines is bringing the fun and freedom of running in the mountains to running in the city with Salomon Citytrail Manila 2014. Yes, the popular Citytrail running events that have been successfully running in various countries all over the world is finally happening here on September 7 at the Walled City of Intramuros.
Intramuros is the perfect venue of choice as it properly reflects the heritage and history of the Philippines, particularly the country’s capital city of Manila. It is also at par with the scenic and unique routes of other Citytrail runs held in the US, Europe and Asia particularly Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
It is also expected to be a different experience altogether for runners to pound the pavements, so to speak, of the historic landscape of Intramuros. A preview of the route—up, down and around stairways, elevated pathways, dungeons, alleys, mini-parks, bridges, and even otherwise restricted areas in Intramuros—elicited excitement during the press launch held at ROX at Bonifacio Global City. Divided into two categories of 12km and 6km, the race course will not be a conventional road run and will entail some trail running skills, all the while while rediscovering Philippine heritage and culture at the same time. Salomon brand ambassadors, Philippine Sky Runners and Suunto Athletes will be assigned to selected areas to marshal and guide the participants in the running tour.
Race Director TJ Isla assured the participants that they would have as much fun as their team had when they plotted the race routes. He said it will provide just enough challenges to long-time runners while keeping the fun factor for running enthusiasts and newbies. The organizers urge runners not to focus on beating their PR (personal record) too much at Citytrail Manila as it is not meant to be a competitive race. In short, don’t beat yourself up and make it a happy run instead.
Adding to the fun and excitement is the fact that Citytrail Manila is going to be a sunset run; the race starts at 4PM. Sundown is an ideal time to explore the old fortress and its historic sites. And after the race, runners can unwind while having dinner and refreshments under the moonlight. It will surely be a lovely way to spend the Sunday of September 7th indeed.
Salomon, living up to its claim as the leading expert in trail running equipment, will be launching the X-Scream in time for the Citytrail Manila, as well. Salomon’s campaign “Elevate Your Run” is aptly carried out through the Citytrail event and its latest Citytrail footwear (Sense Mantra and X-Scream series). Salomon aims to introduce Citytrail running as an urban alternative to trail running. It encourages runners to rediscover their own neighborhood and even start or join community runs.
Interested runners are encouraged to register as soon as now since the sunset run is only open to a limited number of participants. The registration will be open from August 1 to August 29 at Salomon stores and August 30 to September 5 at R.O.X. Bonifacio High Street. All registrants will get a race bib, timing chip, Salomon Citytrail singlet, Citytrail cap, post-race meal and a historical running tour of Intramuros City. 12km finishers will get a Citytrail Finisher’s medal. Top three male and female winners per distance will be awarded with R.O.X. gift certificates, Salomon products, and other freebies. Salomon items and products from sponsors will also be given away to lucky participants on the day of the event.
A friendly reminder: Salomon Citytrail Manila is a ‘green run’, so no disposables will be given throughout the race course. Bring your own reusable drinking bottles or cups. Gatorade dispensers and water jugs will be stationed around the road areas of Intramuros City, as well.
